Sushma Swaraj’s skilful administration is on regular display on social media and she has proven her worth as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet Minister in the last three years. While she is known for her work, Swaraj is constantly in the news due to her powerful presence on social media. Sushma Swaraj, the External Affairs minister of India, is known for the fastidious assistance she provides to people who reach out to her on Twitter. She has been declared as the best minister in the Modi government in various polls. Even the Opposition has heaped praises on her for her works. In 2016, Sushma Swaraj was among Foreign Policy’s leading global thinkers “for fashioning a novel brand of Twitter diplomacy.”

Sushma Swaraj started practice as an advocate in the Supreme Court of India in 1973 and was a part of George Fernandes’s legal defence team in 1975. She married Kaushal Swaraj during the Emergency, who is now a senior advocate of Supreme Court of India. He was earlier a criminal lawyer who served as Governor of Mizoram from 1990 to 1993. He was also a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1998 to 2004.
Sushma Swaraj is Indian Parliament’s first and only female MP to receive the ‘Outstanding Parliamentarian Award’ for her contribution to Indian politics.
Sushma Swaraj and her husband Swaraj Kaushal have been credited as the ‘Most Distinguished Couple’ by Limca Book of Records for their achievements and distinction at a young age. They were adjudged as the youngest ever achievers till date in their respective fields in the country.
Sushma Swaraj had joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidarthi Parishad (ABVP) – the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the early 1970s while she was studying at Panjab University, Chandigarh. Sushma Swaraj’s father Hardev Sharma was also an RSS member. In 1974, she had campaigned for Finance Minister Arun Jaitley when he had contested for the post of President of the Delhi University (DU) Students’ Union. Sushma Swaraj had joined the Janata Party and become the youngest cabinet minister of a state at the age of 25! Sushma Swaraj was the first woman Chief Minister of the state of Delhi. She served for three months only, from October 13, 1998 to December 3, 1998. There has been no looking back since.
