Government takes tough stance on LPG cylinder, companies face a major setback

In the past, the government has taken a strong stand to stop the increasing accidents of LPG cylinders. The government has decided not to compromise on security. Measures will be taken for this. Companies making LPG cylinders will no longer be able to manufacture cylinders of different sizes and standards with multiple licensing in the same industrial complex. After the success of the Ujjwala scheme to deliver LPG to every household, the government has decided to tighten the standard of the cylinder.

According to the media report, a tender was issued by petroleum companies to buy more than 3.77 crore LPG cylinders at a cost of five thousand crore rupees. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) received many complaints in this regard, in which questions were also raised on the quality of cylinders. The PMO has directed the Consumer Ministry to review the quality standards of the cylinder.

For your information, let us tell you that the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), along with the Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organization, has started revising the standards. According to the proposed rules, different types of cylinders cannot be manufactured on the basis of multiple licenses in the same industrial complex. Many premises have also been raided by BIS's regional offices for implementing the standard of cylinder manufacturing. Cylinder-making units have been identified on the basis of multiple licenses. Now it will not be possible to do so after amending the rules of the standard.
