NEW DELHI: Seeing governors appointed in various states in recent times, the BJP seems to have changed its vital strategy under which people coming from other parties will not be given big posts. These posts were reserved only for those who came from the Khanti BJP and Sangh family. Almost all the governors appointed during the last five years in the Modi government were either Khanti BJP cadres or former bureaucrats. Satyapal Malik, who was appointed Governor of Jammu and Kashmir last year, was the only exception.

He reached the Lok Sabha in 1989 by winning the Janata Dal ticket from Aligarh. But in 1996, he was fourth in the fight on the SP ticket. While Jagdeep Dhankar has reached the BJP through the Congress from the Janata Dal, Fagu Chauhan was in the BSP till a few years ago. While Dhankar also became an MP on the Janata Dal ticket from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan in 1989 and served as Union Minister in VP Singh's government, Fagu Chauhan was a minister in the Mayawati government of Uttar Pradesh in 2007.

The party never gave big posts to those who came from other parties and joined the BJP. Chaudhary Birendra Singh, who left the Haryana Congress last time and won the BJP ticket, was the only defector to be made a cabinet minister in the Modi cabinet. Apart from him, Rao Inderjit Singh from the Congress and Ram Kripal Yadav, who won the BJP ticket after leaving the RJD, were inducted into the Cabinet by the state minister. But almost all the governors appointed by the Modi government during the past five years were from the background of the Sangh and the BJP.
