Chandigarh: Protests are taking place across the country over the agriculture bill moved by the Modi government. While the opposition is also agitating with the farmers, the BJP's 22-year-old alliance partner Shiromani Akali Dal has given another major setback. In protest against the agriculture bill, Shiromani Akali Dal broke 22-year-old relationship with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The Shiromani Akali Dal is already opposing the agricultural bills brought through the Modi government. In the wake of the protest, Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal had already resigned as union minister. However, the Akali Dal had announced the continuation of support to the NDA government. But now the Akali Dal has decided to separate from NDA against the agriculture bill. The Akali Dal has said that the central government refused to give statutory legislative guarantees to protect the right to ensure marketing of farmers ' produce at MSP. This led to a decision to separate from the BJP-led NDA alliance. The decision has been taken in view of the insensitivity of the central government on issues related to Punjabi and Sikh community.

Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal held a meeting with senior leaders of the party's core committee. It was decided to separate from NDA in this meeting.

Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has termed the Akali Dal's decision to leave NDA as a desperate decision of political compulsion for badal. CM Amarinder says he had no other option left after bjp's public criticism on the Kisan bill.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal resigns: Harsimrat Kaur Badal resigned from the post of Union Minister after she lodged a protest over the Agriculture Bill earlier. Harsimrat Kaur Badal was the Union Minister of Food and Processing Industries. After resigning from the post of Union Minister for Food and Processing Industries, Harsimrat Kaur Badal had said that she has resigned from the Union cabinet against anti-farmer ordinances and legislation. The farmers are proud to stand with them as their daughter andsister.
