KOLKATA: With an eye on the panchayat elections, the West Bengal branch of the BJP has developed a thorough plan for initiating district-level protests against the state's pervasive corruption shortly after the conclusion of "Kali puja" and "Bhai dhuj," also known as "Bhai Phota" in the state.

The action follows instructions from the party high-command to disperse anti-state government movements on corruption issues outside of the state capital of Kolkata prior to the three-tiered 2023 panchayat elections.

In accordance with the party's "march to state secretariat of Nabanna" on September 13, which the central high-command has accepted to be a major success, the detailed agitation will be launched by conducting "march to district secretariats or district magistrate offices" in all the districts of the state.

They added that the intended "march to district secretariat" programmes will be spearheaded by at least one party MP from the state and all the local MLAs from the affected area. "The district-level agitation programmes were initially supposed to begin right after the Durga Puja celebration. However, later on, deciding to do so after the entire holiday season had passed and taking into account the Bengali people's feelings on Kali Puja and Bhai Phota,"a state committee member of the party said.

Samik Bhattacharya, the BJP's state spokesman in West Bengal, stated that the party's panchayat election campaign will unquestionably centre on fighting corruption. "During the current administration, panchayat-level corruption has increased dramatically. We will be going out to the people with our message of no compromising on the problem of corruption, as the people of the state are tired of seeing enormous cash recoveries every day" he said..

However, the Trinamool Congress leadership does not want to place much emphasis on the suggested agitation programmes. Senior Trinamool Congress MLA, Tapas Roy said, organising large-scale movements requires both a strong organisational foundation and mass leaders. "Neither a mass leader nor an organisational foundation for the BJP exists in the state. Therefore, their plans would be to air failed shows repeatedly," he said.
