Tokyo Paralympics champion Avani Lekhara has clinched the gold medal in the women's 10m air rifle standings SH1 at The Châtoux, France on Tuesday (June 7). Avani has won the gold with a world record score of 250.6. The 20-year-old shooter has also secured his place at the 2024 Paris Paralympics by breaking his own world record of 249.6.

Emilia Babaska of Poland also won the silver medal with a total of 247.6 points. At the same time, Anna Norman of Sweden brought laurels to the country by winning the bronze medal with 225.6 points. Avani was about to miss out on participating in the tournament three days before it. His coach and escort had been denied visas. However, the issue was resolved after the intervention of the Sports Authority of India and the Sports Ministry.

The 20-year-old shooter broke his own world record of 249.6. The SH1 category is for athletes with weakness of lower limbs to compete in rifle events.
