Lohardaga: A local BJP leader was shot dead while he was sleeping in Jharkhand's Lohardaga district late on Sunday night. The police reported this. According to the police, while sleeping at night, the masked criminal entered the house of the BJP leader and shot him dead. Officer-in-charge Anil Kumar said that the incident took place around 2 pm on Sunday night at Chatakpur village under the Kuru police station area. The deceased has been identified as BJP booth committee president Ratan Mahato.

The officer said Mahato was taken to The Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi but died on the way. Police have detained three persons in this case. A preliminary investigation has revealed that the murder was committed due to a land dispute. He said two of the alleged attackers have been identified and a search operation has been launched to nab them and further investigation is on.

According to media reports, Ratan Mahato (53), son of Bichhua Mahato, a resident of Jima-Chatakpur village and Chatakpur booth president of the BJP organisation, was sleeping with the child in the verandah of his house. A son was studying there. All the members including the second son-daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and wife were present in the house. The door of the house was open, due to which a masked man entered the house. Ratanu Mahato was shot dead in his wrist. Hearing the gunshot, the other members of the house including the son got up. Tried to catch the masked, but he managed to escape. The case is now being investigated by the police.
