AGRA: After a woman accused the MLA's son of rape, assault, and harassment, police claimed they have filed an FIR against Chhotey Lal Verma of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh and his son Laxmi Kant Verma.
The MLA was arrested after being accused of harassing the woman.
In her allegation, the woman claimed to be Chhotey Lal's daughter's friend and to have visited his home in Agra ever since she was 17 years old. She first met Verma in 2003. She alleged that the MLA's son had called her to his home, spiked her drink and raped her.
Verma allegedly beat the woman and threatened to kill her while recording the crime on camera. He also allegedly promised a marriage proposal to the woman.
A few years later, the woman said that Chhotey Lal's son had married her at a temple and thereater forced her to abort several times.
But when she visited Jalandhar in 2006, Chhotey Lal had already married off his son to a another woman. She allegedly continued to be harassed and was even coerced into signing divorce papers by the MLA's son.
The police said, Verma has been charged with violating the Indian Penal Code's sections 376 (punishment for rape), 313 (causing a miscarriage without a woman's consent), 323 (punishment for voluntarily inflicting harm), 504 (intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of the peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 494 (remarrying while a husband or wife is still alive).
