BJP MLA Ketan Inamdar Resigns, Cites "Inner Voice"

Surat: Ketan Inamdar, a three-term BJP MLA representing the Savli seat in Gujarat's Vadodara district, tendered his resignation from the party on Tuesday, citing his "inner voice" as the driving factor. He clarified that his decision, made ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, was not intended as a "pressure tactic" and affirmed his commitment to supporting the party's candidate, Ranjan Bhatt, in the Vadodara constituency.

Inamdar submitted his resignation to Legislative Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary. This isn't the first time Inamdar has attempted to resign, as he had announced his resignation as an MLA in January 2020, although it was not accepted by the speaker. Addressing reporters after resigning, Inamdar emphasized that his decision was not influenced by external pressures. He expressed concerns about the neglect of long-standing and dedicated party workers, which he had communicated to the party leadership.

Having represented the Savli seat for over 11 years and being actively involved with the BJP, Inamdar underscored the importance of self-respect and echoed the sentiments of many party workers regarding the treatment of veteran members. While reiterating his commitment to ensuring Ranjan Bhatt's victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Inamdar reiterated that his resignation was a personal decision driven by his conscience.

Inamdar's previous attempt to resign in 2020 was accompanied by grievances about being sidelined by senior government officials and ministers, as well as concerns about the neglect of his constituency. Despite his initial victory as an independent candidate in the 2012 Assembly elections, Inamdar later joined the BJP and secured victories in both the 2017 and 2022 polls.

Currently, the BJP holds 156 out of the total 182 seats in the Gujarat Assembly. The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat are scheduled to take place in a single phase on May 7, with vote counting set for June 4.
