Reacting to the public outcry, the Tamil Nadu Police acted swiftly and registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the BJP South District President for his inflammatory comments. Under the Indian Penal Code and other relevant laws, the police charged him with promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony.
