HYDERABAD: Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the Telangana President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, was placed under house arrest on Friday following a demonstration against a fare hike by the Road Transport Corporation (RTC) in the state.
"Over a protest over RTC prices hike in Telangana, Bandi Sanjay Kumar has been placed under house observation," Banjara Hills Station House Officer Shiva Chandra said.
Sanjay had received a call to go to Jubliee Bus Station and speak with the customers about the spike in bus fares. Sanjay has been placed under house arrest, according to the Banjara Hills police, after BJP leader Jitta Balakrishna Reddy was arrested last night.
Sanjay was "kept in house observation" because the police had doubts that he would stage a dharna, according to the police. Jitta Balakrishna Reddy was arrested in a separate incident on June 2 for allegedly using hate speech and inciting violence at an event commemorating Telangana's formation day. The Rachakonda Police have arrested Bandi Sanjay in connection with the same incident.
