New Delhi: The mention of word Gorkhaland by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a letter to Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, has kicked up a row. The letter was written in response to a letter from Darjeeling MP Raju Bista. The state's ruling party TMC sees it as plotting to divide the state. The BJP has rejected the allegation.

According to BJP sources, Bista had sent a letter to Shah in July expressing concern over the detention of Gorkhas from the ambit of the Special Branch set up by the Delhi Police to combat racial discrimination in Delhi, especially with the people of the North-East. In response to MP Bista's letter, Home Minister Shah said his concern about the people of Gorkhaland and Ladakh was being looked into. The Trinamool Congress has condemned Shah's use of the word "Gorkhaland".

"Why did he use the word Gorkhaland?" said Gautam Deb, senior TMC leader and minister. There is no place called Gorkhaland in the entire region. It seems that the BJP is planning to divide Bengal after dividing Jammu and Kashmir. But as long as there is the Trinamool Congress, nobody can divide the state. On the other hand, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista said that the use of the word 'Gorkhaland' has nothing to do with the formation of a separate state.
