Lucknow: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named Syed Zafar Islam as its candidate in the Rajya Sabha by-election of Uttar Pradesh. Zafar Islam, who went to the Rajya Sabha on the seat vacated by Amar Singh's death, successfully carried out the mission of bringing Jyotiraditya Scindia from Congress to BJP in Madhya Pradesh.

The BJP under Madhya Pradesh led by Shivraj Singh Chauhan managed to form the government and now the BJP has decided to send Rajya Sabha from UP as a reward to Zafar Islam. Syed Zafar Islam is the liberal Muslim face of BJP. Before joining politics, Zafar Islam used to work for a foreign bank. Impressed by PM Modi, he joined BJP seven years ago. The party made him a national spokesperson, after which he has been working to keep the party a party.

Zafar Islam and Jyotiraditya Scindia come from Madhya Pradesh and the relationship between the two leaders is very old. It started during Zafar's banking career when Scindia was the Commerce Minister in the UPA government at the Center. Even after coming to the politics of Madhya Pradesh, whenever Scindia lived in Delhi, he used to meet Zafar. The mission of bringing Jyotiraditya Scindia to BJP was given to Zafar Islam, in which he was successful.
