BJP Veteran LK Advani Discharged from AIIMS After Routine Check-Up

NEW DELHI: Veteran BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani, aged 96, was discharged from AIIMS Delhi on Thursday following a brief admission for routine evaluation, confirmed hospital sources. He was admitted to the old private ward of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) late Wednesday night and underwent a minor procedure under the care of specialists from urology and geriatric medicine.

According to an AIIMS official, Advani’s admission was primarily for management of age-related health concerns, and he has now been discharged after receiving necessary medical attention.

Born in Pakistan in 1927, Lal Krishna Advani has had a distinguished political career, having been recently honored with the Bharat Ratna award by President Draupadi Murmu on March 30, 2024. He served as the BJP national president during multiple terms from 1986 to 1990, 1993 to 1998, and 2004 to 2005, making him one of the longest-serving presidents of the party.

Advani also held significant ministerial roles in the Indian government, serving as Home Minister and later as Deputy Prime Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet from 1999 to 2004. His leadership as the Leader of the Opposition in the lead-up to the 2009 elections solidified his stature within the BJP, where he was nominated as the party's Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2009 general elections.

Throughout his career, Advani has been a pivotal figure in Indian politics, known for his strategic acumen and dedication to public service.
