Counting ends in Assam, BJP wins huge and Congress state president resigns

Guwahati: The counting of votes for assam assembly elections 2021 has been completed. Final results have been released by the Election Commission. The BJP has won 60 of the total 126 assembly seats in the state. Thus the BJP-led NDA has won a majority in Assam. Meanwhile, the Congress has won 29 seats.

The All India United Democratic Front has a total of 16 seats in its account. On the other hand, the Asom Gana Parishad has won 9 seats. In addition, bodoland people's front has won 4 seats, CPIM 1, independents 1 and United People's Party, Liberal 6. Assam Congress President Ripun Bora, on the other hand, resigned from his post after the party's defeat in the state assembly elections on Sunday. The Rajya Sabha member has sent his resignation to interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi taking responsibility for the defeat.

Bora wrote in his resignation, "I am resigning as the President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee taking responsibility for the party's humiliating defeat in the Assam assembly elections. Madam, I have to tell you with great sorrow and regret that even after hard work, we have not been able to counter the divisive and communal politics committed by the BJP and the RSS".
