Coimbatore BJP youth wing leader D Karthik had contested for the post of ward councilor in the elections held for Periyanaikanapalayam Union Kurudampalayam Panchayat Ward No. He made headlines for securing a single vote in the rural local body elections held in the district on October 9, for which counting is underway in Tamil Nadu. Proud of four other voters in my family who decided to vote for others. Another Twitter user wrote, "People of #Tamil Nadu are so cruel, they should cast 10 votes for at least 10 leaders in the poster. D.Karthik, Deputy Secretary, BJP Youth Wing, Coimbatore District, got 1 vote in the #LocalBody election.

Apart from the Coimbatore bypoll, the counting of votes for other local body elections in Tamil Nadu is also underway. Counting of votes began at 8 am on October 12 at 74 centers in Tamil Nadu.
