NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh said on Monday that the BJP was constructing a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) office in Amritsar to gain "political mileage" after recognising the Center's "misuse" of it.
"The BJP-Akali government is largely to blame for Punjab's pervasive drug addiction. What will BJP workers in rural areas advocate for if the party is complicit in wrongdoing? Tweets from Singh.
Amit Shah, the union home minister, said on Sunday that the government intended to establish an Narcotics Control Bureau office in Amritsar, Punjab, within a month.
The Modi government is aiming to free the country from drug addiction and eradicate the drug trade in Punjab. Within a month, an NCB (Narcotics Control Bureau) office will be established in Amritsar to combat drug addiction, and shortly after that, BJP members will launch anti-drug awareness programmes in every hamlet, Amit Shah tweeted on Sunday.
Prior to Singh, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had also lambasted the BJP over the opening of the Narcotics Control Bureau office.
Kejriwal wrote in Hindi in response to the Union Home Minister's tweet: "Will you be opening NCB's office in Amritsar or BJP's? And how can BJP members in every village help the NCB? Does this imply that you don't worry about the drug problem in Punjab? You wish to promote the BJP through NCB. By the way, Shah Sahib, throughout your and the Akali Dal government's term in office, drug-related problems had expanded throughout Punjab, hadn't they?
