SRINAGAR: In a harsh move against those who commit crimes against women, Srinagar police have detained two people who are accused of kidnapping a girl, extorting money, and posting her footage on WhatsApp.
"Police received a written complaint from a resident of Srinagar's Shunglipora locality saying that Danish Majeed Bhat, son of Abdul Majeed Bhat and a resident of Noorbagh, and Aadil Ahmed Rather, son of Abdul Ahad Rather and a resident of Shunglipora Noorbagh, had recorded an offensive video of his niece," police said.
"Later, they extorted money from the aforementioned victim girl under the guise of sharing the said video on social media, and later, both accused disseminated it on Whatsapp among other Shangilipora residents as well," the statement said. According to the police, both of the accused people were detained right away after acting quickly. They have been taken to the police station, where they continue to be detained.
Anyone detected involved in the distribution of the abovementioned film will face stern legal punishment, the police said. "Community members are recommended to remove the said video clip immediately if they have received it."
Citizens are informed to delete the said clip immediately if they have received it, and any circulation by anyone will account strict legal action under IT act,” the statement added.
