Islamabad: A massive fire breaks out on Thursday in Karachi-Rawalpindi Tezgam express after gas cylinder blast. According to report, Death toll rises to 62, in incident where fire broke out in train in Liaqatpur near Rahim Yar Khan.
According to railway officials, the gas used for cooking exploded in the canister. The fire broke out in three bogies after the blast. At least 62 people were killed in the incident, while more than 30 have been seriously injured.
The injured have been admitted to BVH Bahawalpur and Pakistan-Italian Modern Burn Centre in Multan for treatment. The rescue operation is going on under the supervision of Jamil Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner of Rahim Yar Khan. According to information received so far, the first explosion on Thursday morning caught fire in two bogies of the economy class, while a business class bogie was also caught fire. The injured have been admitted to The Najdiki Hospital. Rescue team is present at the scene. Many people jumped down from the moving train to save lives.
Pakistan's Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid said the fire was caused by a cylinder explosion when passengers were preparing for their breakfast in the morning. Many people saved their lives by jumping off the train. The train was on its way from Karachi to Rawalpindi. Railway Minister Rashid said the damaged track will be commissioned within two hours.
