Mumbai: Ganeshotsav is celebrated every year in a grand manner in Maharashtra. Last year, the outbreak of the Corona epidemic had an impact on the festival. Now this year also the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has approved only 16 percent of the pandals. In fact, a total of 1273 Mandal applications came to BMC for setting up a pandal, out of which 519 have been approved. Before the pandemic, BMC used to get about 3000 applications.
BMC has kept very strict rules for Ganeshotsav pandals. Ganeshotsav is starting from 10th September. The effect of the epidemic is also visible in the markets. There has also been a drop in the sale of Ganesh idols. Idol artist Vinay Jilka says that people are avoiding buying big idols because there is no clarity on the rules of immersion right now. When there was no Corona, we used to have a lot of work and did not get any time from the workshop.
Now according to the new guidelines, idols up to four feet in pandals and up to two feet in houses have been described as ideal. At the same time, there is a ban on visiting pandal. Darshan can be done online only. Only five pandal workers can stay inside the pandal.
