New Delhi:- Yesterday, BMW, a company that makes fancy cars, opened a really fancy test center in Sokolov, Karlovy Vary. It's the biggest one in Europe. The Future Mobility Development Center (FMDC) is a big area that covers 600 hectares. It took more than CZK 7 billion to construct.

The large testing area includes six tracks that are a total of 25 kilometers long. These tracks have a noticeable height difference of 80 meters. It also includes specific parts meant for simulating traffic in rural and city areas. BMW announces that the facility will be exclusively used for testing advanced car technologies.

The main goal of the FMDC is to improve self-driving cars. These cars can drive themselves very accurately, so drivers can trust them in traffic situations.

The main aim of this technology is to reduce accidents because many accidents happen when drivers are not paying attention. BMW thinks that by combining advanced self-driven technology, they can greatly decrease the amount of accidents and make roads a lot safer.

The big area has many kinds of transportation, like small and big roads, bridges, and complicated places where roads meet with traffic lights. The center uses models of people, children, cyclists, and animals to recreate real-life situations. This helps them test car safety systems and respond quickly to dangers, preventing accidents.

BMW states that safety is a very important concern at the FMDC, and they take strong precautions to ensure security at the campus. During the start of the event, all the guests had to cover their mobile phone cameras to keep people's personal information private. Additionally, the media were not allowed to enter the area. These precautions are in line with the test center's goal of testing and improving autonomous technologies in a safe environment.

The FMDC's grand opening was seen as a very important event for the Karlovy Vary region, said Governor Petr Kulhánek. The center is expected to bring in talented people to the area and maybe make the campus bigger, which will help the economy grow and improve technology.

Aside from BMW's participation, Sokolovská uhelná - the company that owns the land where the facility is located - is also keen on working together with BMW to create various activities on the site. There are also plans to use the leftover landfill areas for creating new industrial zones on the western side. This will provide up to 60 hectares of space.

In the business world, BMW has been doing well. They sold about 1. 2 million cars worldwide in the first half of the year, which is 4. 7 percent more than before. This increase in sales comes after a small decrease of 5 percent in sales last year. Additionally, the company made a lot more money in 2022 compared to previous years. Their gross profit increased by almost half to a huge amount of EUR 23. 5 billion (around CZK 564 billion), which is the highest it has ever been.
