BOSNIA: Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH) has deported the first group of Pakistani migrants back to their home country, said the Ministry of Security of BiH.
The deportation process was enabled based on the Readmission Agreement, signed between Bosnia and Herzegovina. Pakistan in November 2020, and the protocol on implementation of this agreement that came into force in July 2021, the Ministry added on Sunday.
The Ministry stated that the deportations "show the determination of BiH to combat all types of illegal migration and send back all who do not meet standards for seeking international protection." The Ministry added that further groups are anticipated to be deported soon.
Through the Balkan Route, one of the main migration routes into Europe, thousands of refugees and migrants have been seeking to enter the nations of the European Union (EU) since 2015.
3,865 migrants, or around 5% fewer than in the same period last year, were registered in BiH between January and April. According to the Ministry, about 76% of all migrants registered by Bosnian authorities are from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
According to the Border Police of BiH, a total of 1,433 persons attempted to enter BiH illegally throughout the first four months of this year, a decrease of 32% from the same period last year.
