Mumbai: An order has been issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to avoid any action against those who have not worn masks in private cars. So far, there was a fine of Rs 200 for being caught without masks in Mumbai. At present, the order is only on people plying in private cars.

People have to wear masks in two-wheelers, three-wheelers (autorickshaws) while travelling. During the crisis period of the corona epidemic, the BMC had deployed 1200 marshals across Mumbai to take action against people who did not wear masks. About 50 marshals were deployed in each of the 24 wards of BMC. On average, the BMC catches more than 40 every day without masks and imposes fines on them.

The BMC has only arrested 13,000 people this year without masks and has recovered Rs 27 lakh as a penalty. Talking about the whole of Maharashtra, the district administrations all over the place follow the process under the government order with the awareness of the people at their level.
