NEW DELHI: Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), who is accused of violating the POCSO Act, said on Thursday that the law is being "misused" and that, with the help of seers, "we will force the government to change."

Brij Bhushanwas addressing the media at a gathering here about getting ready for a seer gathering he had organised for June 5 in Ayodhya. According to sources, he stated that 11 lakh seers would participate in the protest.  Since April 23, prominent wrestlers across the nation, including Vinesh Phogat and Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, have staged a sit-in at Delhi's Jantar Mantar to call for Singh's arrest for allegedly harassing seven female competitors, including a kid.

Two FIRs have been filed by the Delhi Police against the WFI president. The second FIR was filed in response to outraging modesty, whereas the first FIR was filed in response to charges made by the young wrestler and was covered by the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The head of the WFI claimed there has been widespread abuse of the POCSO Act. "Children, the elderly, and seers are being victimised by the abuse of this law. Even government employees are susceptible to its abuse, according to the Kaiserganj MP, who was quoted by PTI.

"Under the guidance of the seers, we will compel the administration to amend the (POCSO) law. The law was introduced by the Congress administration without considering all of its implications, he continued, repeating that all of the accusations made against him are untrue.

Until the inquiry into the wrestlers' claims is finished, the Sports Ministry has suspended all of the wrestling federation's activities.  Singh has previously attempted to compare the wrestler Vinesh Phogat to Manthara, a figure from the Hindu epic Ramayana. The WFI president added, "Vinesh Phogat is playing the role of Manthara for me, much as Manthara-Kaikeyi did in the Treta yug.
