The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered the cable operators to ban the transmission of the restricted set-up channels for the purpose of maintaining peace in the valley. In this regard, on July 12, an order issued by Additional Commissioner of Police (ADC) of Srinagar was sent to all the heads of cable operators in Srinagar.
In the order, the cable operators have alleged that "in the jurisdiction of Srinagar district, the spread and transmission of unscrupulous private satellite channels are being carried out." The cable operators have expressed disappointment over this decision by the government. The government has asked about 30 channels off-air, more than half of them are Islamic channels, although no one is openly talking, some Force operators have expressed their anger over the social media.
A cable operator has cited nearly 18 channels like Peace TV English, Peace TV Urdu, ARY QtV, Madani Channel, Noor TV, etc. saying that they do not understand how the channels are capable of encouraging violence.
It is significant to know that in the issued order, cable operators have been asked to submit notified affidavit in front of ADC Srinagar. If cable operators fail to deposit this, then action will be taken against them under the provisions of "CTN (Regulation) Act 1995".
These TV channels will be stopped from broadcasting according to the state's chief home secretary RK Goyal, issued orders: PC TV Urdu, Peace TV English, ARY QTV, Madani Channel, Noor TV, Hadi TV, Pegam, Hidayat, Saudi-Al-Sunna Al Nawabiya, Saudi-Al-Quran-Al Karim, Sahar, Karbala TV, Ahl-e-Bait TV, Message TV, We TV, ARY Digital Asia, Hum Stars, ARY Life, PTV Sports, ARY Music, TV One, ARY MAS.
