KOLKATA:  On Tuesday afternoon, a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan who was posted at the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal's Nadia district shot himself to death.

Sanjay Patel, a Gujarati citizen, has been identified as the deceased jawan. The event happened at a BSF camp in the Nadia district's Nafarchandrapur.

According to sources, on Tuesday afternoon the other BSF jawans posted at the camp abruptly heard gunfire coming from within. They entered quickly and discovered Patel bleeding heavily on the ground. Just next to his body lay his service rifle. It is suspected that he simply used his service gun to kill himself.

Patel was sent right away to the Tehatta Sub-divisional Hospital in the area, where doctors declared him dead. The local police and Patel's coworkers believe that his suicide was likely the result of mental depression. No one, however, was able to pinpoint the precise cause of his sadness.

A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) soldier opened indiscriminate fire in Kolkata in August of this year with his AK-47 weapon, killing one coworker and gravely wounding another.
