The BSP - Bahujan Samaj Party - is preparing to contest all 70 seats in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. The party’s first list of candidates is expected to be announced by mid-January, with final decisions to be made after reviewing recommendations from local coordinators.

A party official shared that the capital has been divided into five zones, and the process of selecting candidates for each zone is currently underway. Coordinators have been assigned to oversee the process in each area. Once these coordinators finalize their recommendations, they will be sent to BSP chief Mayawati for the final decision.

The BSP’s official added that the Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for February, present both exciting and challenging prospects. He mentioned that small-scale meetings are being held at the grassroots level, where key issues and agendas are discussed. Based on these discussions, the final candidates will be selected.

The candidate list is expected to be finalized by January 15, 2025. The BSP contested all 70 seats in the 2020 Delhi Assembly polls but didn't win any, securing only 0.71 percent of the vote share. The party has also contested all 70 seats in previous elections, including 2015, 2013, and 2008. In 2003, it contested 40 seats.

The BSP’s vote share in past Delhi elections varied, with the highest in 2008 at 14.05%, when the party won two seats. In 2015, it received 1.13%, and in 2013, it garnered 5.35%. In 2003, it secured 5.76%.

The BSP plans to launch its election campaign on January 5, 2025. Once the election dates and candidates are announced, Mayawati and her successor will actively participate in rallies across the capital, working closely with coordinators to boost the party’s visibility.

The upcoming Delhi Assembly elections are expected to be a tough contest between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has held power since 2015, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). AAP has already released its final list of 38 candidates, with party leader Arvind Kejriwal contesting from New Delhi and Chief Minister Atishi from Kalkaji.
