Lucknow: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has suffered a humiliating defeat in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The BSP, which came to power with a thumping majority in 2007, performed its worst in UP. The BSP, which had been claiming to have come back to power with an absolute majority till the time of campaigning, could win only one seat in the results. Now, the BSP has now blamed the media for the defeat.

BSP supremo and former CM Mayawati tweeted targeting the media. In his tweet, he wrote, "The casteist, malicious and despicable attitude that has been adopted by the media under the direction of its masters during the UP Assembly general elections, to harm the Ambedkarite BSP movement is not hidden from anyone. In this situation, the party spokespersons will also be given new responsibility. Mayawati further wrote, "Therefore,  all the spokespersons of the party, Shri Sudhindra Bhadauria, Shri Dharamveer Chaudhary, Dr. M.H. Khan, Shri Faizan Khan and Smt. Seema Kushwaha will no longer participate in tv debates etc. '

Mayawati's BSP has won only one of the 403 assembly seats in UP. Umashankar Singh, who was the leader of the BSP legislature party in the assembly, is the only MLA to reach the assembly after winning from Mayawati's party. Umashankar Singh has become an MLA for the third time from Rasra assembly seat in Ballia.
