BTC election results 2020: UPPL leads in early trends, BPF trails

Guwahati: The results  of recently-held Assam Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections will be announced today . The counting of votes for the council polls started from 8 a.m.  The early trends from counting centres for the BTC election show a neck and neck fight between ruling BPF and newly floated UPPL, led by Promod Boro.


In the initial trends,  the UPPL was leading on nine seats while Hagrama Mahilary-led ruling BPF was ahead in seven seats.The counting of votes began this morning at 8 am on 10 counting centres across four BTR districts—Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri.


The voting for this elections was conducted through the paper ballot in two-phase. The first phase of the election was held on December 7 while the second and final phase was conducted on December 10.A total of 23,87,422 voters in the two phases exercised their franchise to elect their representatives for the local council. The BPF, BJP, UPPL, Congress and AIUDF are the key players contesting the polls which had a total of 243 candidates in the fray.While BPF is seeking to retain its 15-year-old BTC regime, the BJP is eyeing to dethrone the regional party.
