New Delhi: The Supreme Court has currently refused to ban the action to remove encroachments in Tughlakabad, the national capital. The court has said that there is a lot of encroachment in the area, even 60 per cent of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) land is vulnerable to encroachment. The court has further said that it will hear tomorrow the issue of compensation and rehabilitation of those whose houses are being demolished.

During the hearing of the case, the counsel for the Delhi government told the top court that the process of rehabilitating the people living in the encroachment-affected area in Tughlakabad has already started. Advocate Colin Gonsalves submitted before the bench of Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud that the impugned order was passed a few days ago. Thousands of houses have been demolished and will be demolished. However, the court has refused to stay the proceedings for the time being.

Let us inform that on the 24th of last month, the High Court had ordered the removal of the encroachment from the Tughlaqabad fort within four weeks. After the order of the High Court, the action to remove the encroachments was also started from Sunday. On the first day around 1300 illegal houses and slums were demolished with bulldozers and the action is going on continuously. A large number of forces have also been deployed on the spot to remove the encroachment. At the same time, there is resentment among the local people regarding the removal of the encroachment. He says that his house built with his lifetime's earnings is being demolished in a jiffy.
