New Delhi: The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SMCD) on Tuesday launched a campaign to remove encroachments in many areas of the city. During this, temporary constructions were removed in all the four zones. Along with this, illegal hoardings and vehicles parked on the side of the road were also seized. According to SMCD officials, about 5 km of road was made encroachment free during this period.

SMCD launched this campaign after Delhi BJP state president Adesh Gupta's letter, in which he had demanded action against the encroachment of South and East Municipal Corporation by Rohingya, Bangladeshi and other anti-social elements. Earlier, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMCD) had campaigned against encroachment in Jahangirpuri. Violence broke out at this place on 16 April. However, the drive against the encroachment was later put on hold following the order of the Supreme Court.

At the same time, while issuing a statement on behalf of SMCD, it was told that the corporation has campaigned against encroachment in four zones including Palam, Tilak Nagar, Hari Nagar, Ring Road, CR Park, Greater Kailash and Gurdwara Road. According to officials, illegal occupation of government land was vacated during this period. Encroachment was removed especially along the road side and sidewalk. Not only this, vehicles parked on the side of the road were also confiscated.
