MUMBAI: Vishal Kumar, a 21-year-old engineering student from Bengaluru who was seized on Monday, was arrested on Tuesday by Mumbai cyber police in connection with their investigation into two applications where photographs of Muslim women were posted in an attempt to "auction" them, according to police.
Vishal Kumar, a second-year civil engineering student, was interrogated for 20 hours before being arrested on Tuesday.According to a Mumbai cyber crime unit officer, Kumar was running one of the Twitter identities used to upload the app's material.
"Vishal Kumar was caught on Monday afternoon in Bengaluru and brought to Mumbai in the evening. He was questioned, several facts were verified, and he was detained after his role in the crime was discovered," said Milind Bharambe, joint commissioner of police (crime).
"Around 4 p.m., the accused was taken to the Bandra court for his detention remand for further investigation," Bharambe said. He was remanded in police detention until January 10 by the judge.
