In the light of rising inflation, Union Cabinet has approved a three percent increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) of Central Government employees and pensioners.

In July, the Central government had restored Dearness Allowance benefits for its employees and pensioners and had increased the same (DA) from  17 per cent to 28 per cent.  The Dearness Allowance is a part of the salary given to government employees and pensioners. Notably, the payment of DA of employees has not been revised since January 2020.

Earlier 2019, the Union cabinet had approved a 3 per cent hike in dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees and pensioners which will cost the exchequer Rs 9,168.12 crore. Again, previously, the Cabinet had raised the DA from 7 to 9 per cent last August 2018 which was implemented with retrospective effect from July 2018.
