Campaigning for the first phase of general election will draw to a close today. Voting will be held in ninety-one Lok Sabha constituencies, spread over 20 States and Union Territories, in this phase on Thursday (April 11). The two national parties of Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party were reduced to the nominal presence, actor Pawan Kalyan’s six-year-old Jana Sena Party emerged as the third largest party after TDP and YSRCP. Jana Sena is contesting the polls in alliance with the Left and Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party.

All Lok Sabha constituencies in 10 States and Union Territories will go to polls in the first phase. These are in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Telangana, and Uttarakhand.

Other states where voting will take place in the first phase are Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. On Tuesday 5:00 pm campaigning will also end for Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and 28 of 147 seats in Odisha. Today is the last day for filing of nominations for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections. 71 constituencies in nine states, will go to polls in this phase on the 29th of this month.
