OTTAWA – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a new federal investment in Stellantis' project funding, which would modernise assembly plants and enhance electric vehicle production (EV).

The government is investing up to 529 million Canadian Dollar  (USD 423 million) on this initiative, according to a statement from Trudeau's office. The province of Ontario is also backing the project with a C$513 million investment.

"For future generations, we are developing a world-class Canadian car sector, a creative economy, and a clean, strong future for all Canadians. This is what a healthy economy and environment look like "Trudeau said.

"Ontario has all it needs to reclaim its place as North America's car manufacturing powerhouse," said Doug Ford, the premier of Canada's largest province. Stellantis' multibillion-dollar project will support facilities in Windsor and Brampton, Ontario, by introducing flexible vehicle platforms and growing EV production at both locations.

Stellantis' investment will also help the Automotive Research and Development Centre (ARDC) in Windsor build a state-of-the-art Battery Pack Testing Facility for North America, bolstering Canada's position as a leader in electric vehicle innovation.
