New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Subramanian Swamy on Sunday said that he has not added prefix "Chowkidar" to his name on Twitter because he is a Brahmin. BJP MP Subramanian Swamy says he cannot be a Chowkidar as he is a Brahmin. 

While giving an interview to a Tamil news channel named Thanthi TV, Subramanian Swamy said that he did not change his name to Chowkidar Subramanian Swamy on Twitter because he is a Brahmin and hence, cannot be a Chowkidar. The video clip is now going viral on social media. He further added, “I will give the orders and the Chowkidar has to execute it.”

The 15-second video clip is now going viral on social media and on expected lines, many are slamming the BJP leader and the party for its casteist mindset. 

when the BJP is trying to counter the “Chowkidar Chor Hain” narrative of the Congress party with “Main Bhi Chowkidar” campaign, Swamy’s statement has only caused more embarrassment to the party.

A day before adding Chowkidar prefix to his name, PM Modi had tweeted that everyone who was "fighting corruption, dirt, social evils" was a Chowkidar. Following suit, BJP president Amit Shah, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, and other party leaders also added Chowkidar to their names
