Sunday, A moderate intensity earthquake shaken the capital-New Delhi,which is measuring as 6.8 high magnitude in the Hindukush mountain range in Afghanistan.

In Delhi,earthquake felt for five minutes,and were also felt in various parts of north India,including Kashmir and Uttarakhand, due to which people run out of their houses.

The quake struck at 3.58 p.m. and its epicenter was over a 200 km area on the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border in the Hindukush region.

National Center for Seismology’s operation head J.L.Gautam said,“The earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale at a depth of 190 km hit Hindukush mountain region at 3:58 p.m.,”

As per the fire department and the police,their control rooms did not receive any calls reporting damage or collapse of any buildings.

Manish Sisodia,the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi tweeted "earthquake!!! It was really scary! I could see plants and furniture shaking at 6th floor office of Delhi secretariat. Wish all is well.”

Delhi Metro  Rail Corporation said in the statement that , “Train services resumed after two-three minutes with cautionary speed of less than 40 km per hour till the next station. No damage was reported from anywhere so far,’’

The tremors, meanwhile smacked panic among city dwellers, with some stating that they saw their building “shake like a pendulum”

Sweta Maheshwari said, “My parents, who stay on the 11th floor of an apartment in Ghaziabad, said they felt strong tremors. They said that the building was shaking like a pendulum and many residents ran downstairs in fear. Most people waited outside for 10 minutes before returning home,”
