The Captain Amarinder Singh today swore in oath as the Chief Minister of Punjab. For the second time, he took oath as the chief minister of Punjab. The ceremony took place at Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh where Governor V.P. Singh Badnore administered the oath of office and secrecy to Singh.

The others who took oath as ministers are Navjot Singh Sidhu, Manpreet Singh Badal, and Charanjit Channi. The ceremony is attended by Former prime minister Manmohan Singh and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

In the Punjab Assembly elections 2017, he contested the election on Patiala seat. In the result of Assembly elections, Congress got 77 seats out of total 117 seats. While -Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who allianced with  Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) got only 18 seats.
