Amritsar: Enraged by cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu's coronation as Punjab Congress president, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has convened an important meeting of his close leaders at his farmhouse in Siswan, Mohali. The meeting was going on at CM Amarinder Singh's farmhouse all night even before Sidhu's coronation. CM Captain Amarinder Singh and other old Congress leaders want the responsibility to be given to Pratap Singh Bajwa if the Punjab Congress president is to be replaced.

CM Captain Amarinder Singh has again convened a meeting at the farmhouse today. Speculations are rife that sidhu's candidature as the president of the Punjab Congress unit will be discussed in the meeting. The Punjab high command has been looking angry ever since Sidhu became president. There is a series of frequent meetings at their farmhouse. It may be recalled that before the 2022 assembly elections, the punjab congress is not taking the name of ending the infighting. Now CM Amarinder Singh is engaged in meetings with his camp leaders.

In fact, Amarinder Singh was not in favour of sidhu's promotion as he wrote to Sonia Gandhi that promoting a Jat Sikh to the post would anger veteran leaders representing the Hindu community. However, he had maintained his official stand that he would welcome any decision of the top leadership. Meanwhile, 10 MLAs had issued a joint statement in support of CM Amarinder before reforming the state unit.  Meanwhile, the Congress high command is trying to fill the rift ahead of the assembly elections early next year.
