Lockdown should be carried forward keeping livelihood in mind: CM Amarinder

Chief Minister of the Indian state of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh, supported the increase of lockdown. He said that while doing so, focusing on the economic empowerment of the states, such a strategy should be carefully designed to save people's lives as well as to secure their livelihood.

During the video conference with the Prime Minister on Monday, the Chief Minister strongly favored continuation of lockdown in view of the increasing cases of Corona at the national level. He said that there is a need to give more relaxation to states for planning at the lower level. States should allow micro, small and medium industries to run in the red zone with appropriate security measures. The decision to select Red, Orange and Green zones should also be left to the states as they are more aware of the ground reality.

Captain demanded a revenue grant for three months for the states to meet the revenue deficit due to Covid-19 and the funds spent. He also urged the states to provide immediate financial assistance for at least 33 percent of their committed liabilities. He also called for a national strategy for testing.
