Caretaker PM's Disturbing Desire: Conversion of All Hindus to Islam in Pakistan

Islamabad: In a concerning revelation, Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaar ul Haq Kakar, has come under scrutiny for a past social media post in which he expressed the desire to see all Hindus in Pakistan convert to Islam. The post, dating back to 2020, has resurfaced and is causing outrage. In the post, Kakar stated, "We are waiting for all Hindus to be persuaded to the enlightening truth of Islam, will wait for a millennium, no hurry." This disturbing statement reflects the deeply ingrained discrimination and persecution faced by religious minorities, especially Hindus, in Pakistan.

The caretaker prime minister made this remark in response to an Indian social media user who had referred to Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, as a "Kafir" (non-believer). While such a statement from a high-ranking official would be shocking in most countries, it sadly aligns with the ongoing religious discrimination and violence against minorities in Pakistan. The dwindling Hindu population in Pakistan post-partition is a stark reality, and the rapid decline continues due to various factors, including forced conversions and abductions of Hindu girls. Tragically, not a day goes by without reports of Hindu and other minority girls being abducted, forcibly converted to Islam, and married off to their captors. The Pakistani judicial system often fails to provide justice and protect the rights of these victims, further exacerbating the plight of religious minorities.

The situation is not surprising, given that individuals in positions of power, like PM Kakar, hold extremist views. As a senator, Kakar had previously downplayed the issue of forced conversions, claiming that there was a level of willingness among the victims. This revelation sheds light on the dire state of religious freedom and the treatment of minorities in Pakistan, highlighting the urgent need for international attention and intervention to address this ongoing crisis.
