Mumbai: A case was registered on Monday against Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad, Textiles Minister Aslam Shaikh and others for waving sword in a public function. A Mumbai Police official said that a function was organized to welcome Congress leader and poet Imran Pratapgarhi on Sunday night at Rang Sharda Bhawan in Badra, where the incident took place.

The officer said that pictures and videos of the ceremony are going viral. Shaikh and Gaikwad, including Imran Pratapgarhi, can be seen waving swords. He said that as soon as the incident came to the notice, the police have registered a case against Imran Pratapgarh, two ministers and other persons under sections including Bombay Police Act, Arms Act. BJP leader Mohit Kamboj claimed that the police have registered a case against everyone after their complaint. Police said that the investigation of the matter is on.

According to the news received, Imran Pratapgarhi had reached Mumbai for a review meeting of the minority cell of Maharashtra Congress. Gaikwad is an MLA from Dharavi assembly constituency of Mumbai. Sheikh represents the Malad (West) section. Both the ministers belong to the Congress, one of the three constituents of the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.
