Bhopal: Mohan Yadav has been chosen as the next Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh in a surprising move by the BJP, concluding days of uncertainty. The 58-year-old, a three-time MLA from Ujjain and a former member of Shivraj Singh Chouhan's cabinet, will be accompanied by two deputies - Jagdish Devda and Rajendra Shukla. Former Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, who contested the state polls, will assume the role of Speaker.
In a video from the BJP meeting, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is seen presenting a bouquet to Mohan Yadav and offering his blessings. Expressing his gratitude, CM-designate Mohan Yadav stated, "I am a small worker of the party. I thank all of you, the state leadership, and the central leadership. With your love and support, I will try to fulfill my responsibilities."
Mohan Yadav embarked on his political journey with his first election as an MLA in 2013, securing re-election in the subsequent 2018 Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly election. He solidified his influence within the state's political landscape when he took the oath as a cabinet minister on July 2, 2020, in the government led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Born on March 25, 1965, in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav has longstanding affiliations with the BJP and is recognized as a businessman. In the recent 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly election, he successfully defended his seat in the Ujjain South constituency, winning by a margin of 12,941 votes against Congress candidate Chetan Premnarayan Yadav. This victory marked his third consecutive term as an MLA, securing 95,699 votes.
The Ujjain South constituency, situated in the Malwa North region and falling under the Ujjain Lok Sabha constituency, has been a BJP stronghold since 2003.
The BJP's selection also addresses the caste equation, with Narendra Singh Tomar, belonging to the Rajput (upper caste) community, appointed as the assembly speaker. Mohan Yadav, from the OBC (Other Backward Classes) community, assumes the role of Chief Minister. The positions of Deputy CMs have been assigned to Rajendra Shukla (Brahmin) and Jagdish Deora (Dalit), providing representation to various sections of the population.
