An irregular period is when there is no fixed period cycle many people don’t understand this term. Irregular periods are when the length of your menstrual cycle (the gap between your periods starting) keeps changing. Your periods may come early or late. The average menstrual cycle lasts 28 days, although it's normal for it to be a bit shorter or longer than this. There are various reasons for irregular Menstrual cycle.

Having birth control pills: It contains a combination of the hormones estrogen and progestin (some contain progestin alone). The pills prevent pregnancy by keeping the ovaries from releasing eggs. Going on or off birth control pills can affect menstruation.
PCOS: People with the condition often have high levels of androgens, which are male sex hormones. This can stop ovulation, resulting in irregular periods. People with PCOS may miss periods and have heavy bleeding when periods do arrive

Not having a proper lifestyle: Gaining or losing a significant amount of weight, dieting, changes in exercise routines, travel, illness, or other disruptions in a woman's daily routine can have an impact on her menstrual cycle.
Thyroid: Having an underactive thyroid means that the thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones. This can cause longer, heavier periods. Other symptoms include tiredness, sensitivity to cold, and weight gain.
Breastfeeding: Prolactin is a hormone that plays a role in breastmilk production. It can also suppress ovulation, especially in people who exclusively and frequently breastfeed during the first months of a baby’s life.
Too much exercise: Excessive exercise can also interfere with the hormones responsible for menstruation. This can occur in female athletes, dancers, and others who train intensively. If intense exercise is combined with a restrictive diet, a person might develop the “female athlete triad, which irregulates your period cycle.
