CHENNAI: In a vivid display of discontentment, a cadre of farmers embarked on an overnight protest against the directive to release Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu. The heart of Karnataka witnessed a steadfast demonstration that extended into the late hours of Wednesday, accompanied by a poignant candlelight vigil near Srirangapatna Mandya.

The agitation commenced earlier that Wednesday, as farmers vehemently voiced their objections to the recent recommendation to allocate 5,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) of water to Tamil Nadu for a span of 15 days. This proposition had emerged from the corridors of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee.

Amplifying the voice of the farmers, Independent MLA Darshan Puttanaiah also cast his lot with the protestors, as per reports from India.com. Focused on the urgency of addressing the contentious Cauvery water imbroglio, Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar, is slated to journey to Bengaluru for further deliberations.

The farmers' nightlong stand epitomizes their resolute determination to safeguard their water resources and secure what they deem to be a just allocation of this vital lifeline. The nocturnal demonstration sends a clear message that the issue is far from resolved and that the fervor of these farmers continues to burn bright.
