Shillong: On Saturday, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will question Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in connection with the Saradha chit fund case. A day before, Kumar arrived in Meghalaya’s capital Shillong on Friday evening from Kolkata via Guwahati by road. Here he was accompanied by his younger brother and three more West Bengal-cadre IPS officers. Notably, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had once described Rajeev Kumar as one of the best officers in her state.

A senior official said that  "Kumar will be questioned in CBI office, Shillong branch by a team of interrogators in connection with the chit fund case on Saturday,".He further added that the Kolkata Police Commissioner is not permitted to meet anyone. Kumar is staying in a private guest house. The Meghalaya Police have provided security to Kumar.

Earlier to this month on  February 6, an order issued by CBI director Rishi Kumar Shukla attached 10 officers to the agency's Kolkata Economic Offences Wing from February 8 to 20. The officials were asked to report to the Joint Director of the CBI in Kolkata. Later, when a CBI team went to question Kumar at his residence in Kolkata on Sunday in connection with its investigation into the Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund cases, they were allegedly roughed up and detained for a few hours.

While in the wake of the face-off between the CBI and the Kolkata Police, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sat on a dharnafor more than 45 hours starting Sunday. While hearing the matter on Tuesday, the Supreme Court had directed the Kolkata Police Commissioner to join the CBI probe at a neutral place -- in Meghalaya's capital Shillong.
