Center said this in Supreme Court regarding facilities of migrant laborers

The Supreme Court has been told by the Central Government that the migrant workers who were seen walking on foot were transported to the nearest railway stations and provided food, water, medicines and clothes when and where they were needed.  Theabove information was given in the detailed affidavit filed in the Supreme Court by the Central Government on Thursday. The center said that the above things were provided free of cost to the migrant workers according to their needs. It is known that on the issue of difficulties of migrant workers, the Supreme Court is hearing with automatic cognizance. According to the affidavit of the Center, till June 1, the Railways have provided 1.63 crore miles and 2.10 crore bottles of drinking water.

The affidavit states that the central government, state governments, frontline workers and the entire country have worked on a war footing to deal with this unprecedented corona epidemic. The apex court on Friday had given 15 days time for migrant workers trapped in other states to be repatriated to their home states. The court reserved its order on the matter till 9 June.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who is appearing for the government in the court, said that till June 3, the Railways have run 4,228 labor special trains. He said that 1 crore people have been sent home by train and road. It is informed that right now the state governments have requested 171 trains. The train is being arranged within 24 hours of receiving the request. Maharashtra has requested only 1 train. So far 802 trains have run from Maharashtra.
