New Delhi: The Modi government at the Centre has set up a GoM to keep a close watch on Jammu and Kashmir. The group will monitor development, economic and social issues in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. According to official sources, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, PMO Minister Jitendra Singh and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan are part of the group.

After removing the special statehood from Jammu and Kashmir and dividing the Union Territories, the Group of Ministers will look into issues relating to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and suggest various development, economic and social steps. The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act 2019 was passed by Parliament this month. According to this, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh will get Union Territory status from October 31.

According to information, the first meeting of the leaders will be held in the first week of September. According to an official of the Home Ministry, secretaries of 15 central ministries and departments on Tuesday discussed the process of making Jammu and Kashmir a Union Territory and how to implement the Central schemes at the earliest. The meeting also discussed measures to be taken to stock essential commodities especially before the onset of winter in the Ladakh region.
