New Delhi: An affidavit has been filed by the Central Government on a petition filed in the Supreme Court seeking compensation to the next of kin of those who lost their lives due to the infection. The Central Government has reportedly told the Supreme Court that "compensation of Rs 4 lakh cannot be paid to the families of those who lost their lives due to corona. He also said, "Mandatory compensation under the Disaster Act applies only to natural calamities such as earthquakes, floods, etc.''
At the same time, it has been said by the Government, "If ex-gratia is given on death due to one disease and not on the other, it will be wrong." In fact, the Supreme Court has been told by the Central Government that "compensation for the death of every corona infected patient is beyond the financial capacity of the states. Supreme Court has filed a petition seeking compensation for the death of corona. In fact, the petition requests the Centre and states to provide ex-gratia. The affidavit filed by the Central Government in the Supreme Court says that patients who have died due to the spread and impact of corona cannot be compensated under natural calamity.
Further, the Government also stated that "The Centre and the States are already under financial pressure since the shortage of revenue and increasein health spending. If we start paying 4 lakh compensation for corona deaths, it will affect the amount used in the fight against the epidemic." The affidavit filed by the Central Government in the Supreme Court says, "Patients who died due to the spread and impact of corona cannot be compensated under natural calamity."
Further, the Government has informed that the Centre and the States are already under financial pressure since the shortage of revenue and increase in health spending. If we start paying 4 lakh compensation for corona deaths, it will affect the amount used in the fight against the epidemic.
