New Delhi: Incidents of rape of minors are increasing in the country. Due to poor justice system, the accused are not punished. As many as 1.66 lakh cases related to female and child sexual offenses are pending in the courts of the country. The Central Government has taken a major decision in this direction. The government has decided to set up 1,023 special expeditious courts across the country. A resolution prepared by the Department of Justice under the Law Ministry states that each special court is expected to settle at least 165 such cases every year.

According to the directions of the Supreme Court, 389 of these courts will hear cases specifically registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. The remaining 634 courts will hear cases related to rape or POCSO law. The resolution said that it is expected that each special speedy court will settle 41-42 cases every quarter and at least 165 cases in a year.

As per the proposal of the department, 1,66,882 cases of rape and  POCSO act are pending in various courts of the country. The number of lawsuits filed under the  POCSO Act in 389 districts is more than 100, so as per the directions of the Supreme Court, each of these districts should have a special Poxo court. No other case will be heard in these courts. The ministry has said in the past that the formation of these courts will begin from October 2.
